The Passing of a Roommate

It occurred about 9:30 pm tonight. The sheets ripped off the mattress. The dresser drawers emptied swiftly. A presence now gone. A feeling of emptiness, a vacant spot in the room.

Empty, quiet. No longer shall there be someone up at the crack of dawn, no longer shall the glare of the computer screen be dimmed. Only emptiness and quiet, where a great man once lay.

Gone he is to a comfier mattress, to another room adjacent to mine. Gone he is from a creaky bed to one slightly more stable. Gone are his clothes, his books, his very presence, to another abode.

Gone is he to a roommate with a similar sleeping schedule, gone is he to greener pastures. Such are times, and tragic can they be.

John, you are a roommate I have lost, but haven't. And with thy departure, you have bestowed upon me my own room, for a time.

But... you shall be missed. Greatly. God speed, my dear brother.

Till we meet again. Most likely in the morning.

Holy Heat

85 degress. 85 degree Fahrenheit is the temperature that I woke up to this morning. No, not the temperature outside. The temperature inside my apartment. That's with the windows open and a fan blowing. It's crazy.

I actually woke up at four or so this morning because of the heat and decided to go outside for a quick walk. I was severely tempted to just go lie on the grass and sleep there, cause it was so cool and comfortable.

And then there's my one roommate, Jerry, who thoroughly enjoys these high temperatures. I think he's crazy. No matter.

Enjoy your Sunday!

The Real Reason, I Confess

So maybe my post a couple of days confused you all, maybe you all think I am crazy, that there has to be a somewhat logical explanation for it all, right? Well my roommate Cheese Kurdles has the answer.

Tonight, while making some of the most delicious snicker doodle cookies, asked me how my lady friend, Katydid was doing. I replied in a sort of way that implied that I sorta knew, and that she was doing well, with a followup that we were no longer dating, but were just friends.

Cheese Kurdles then asked by whose decision that was, and I replied that it was kind of both of ours. Then without missing a beat, he looked at me and said "It was all that Hankey-Pankey, wasn't it?"

I confess that I couldn't answer his question immediately, or for the ensuing minutes. I couldn't answer, not because there was indeed hankey-pankey (which there wasn't), but because I was too busy laughing and trying not to fall on the floor.

So there you have it. Or not. Actually I'm not sure if there is actually anything to really understand. Oh wells.

The Prodigal Roommate

I live in a apartment with three rooms, two shared and one private. All four of us in the shared rooms have been here for a few weeks now, and the roommate who has the private room has been here for the summer. Only for the past month or so he's been out of town, until now.

Up until now I have got along with my roommates, even the one with the knives and homicidal tendencies. But I think it is safe to say that I may just live in the most awkward college apartment in Provo. You see, the new roommate, Diego, is old. Not thirties old, but in upper forties or early fifties old, as in has children at least my age old, as in divorced since 1989 old, as in old enough to be my dad old. He's getting his masters degree in law, and although he's seems to be a good guy, this is probably the most awkward situation that I have been in. I guess that means I have a standard now to measure up against?

Anyways, this day was good. The cougars won, so that is an added bonus. Only regrets was not going to walmart to hang with a pair of friends, rather than have my brain melt watching something completely inane.

Creepy Crawlers

I am not the best of roommates. It's not that I don't get along with them, it's just that I frequently talk in my sleep and say crazy things in English and Spanish. With my current roommate, this has not been a problem. He is here from Hawaii over the summer to save up some money for school, and frankly "Ted" sleeps like a log. He also happens to get up around two or so in the morning to go to work usually.
Now frankly, there are times that I wake up, and I either remember vaguely, or not at all. Sometimes, like on my mission, I remember about being slightly woken up by a lot of cats, saying something that there was a great cat war, and asleep again. I only remembered because my mission companion told me about it.
And then there are nights, like last night, where I sort of woke up because my roommate was stirring about, and then going to sleep again. When I went to leave to work today, I discovered Ted on the couch asleep. I assumed two things, one he had missed work, and two, he was probably on the couch because I was speaking in my sleep.
Being concerned that he was way late for work, I woke him up slightly, and asked him about work. It turns out he wasn't scheduled today, but was on call in case. But he also said that I woke him up twice because I was speaking Spanish in my sleep and also that I was typing at my computer too.

So I have pushed the bar in terms of sleeping disorders, there are many people who sleep walk, but I have pushed the limits and now type in my sleep.

So please please don't hold anything against me if I post something in the early morning hours. Thank you.
