Puzzles and Doing What You Love

Last week at the local Orthodontia, the tooth doc had a young man with him, someone training to be an orthodontist as well I presume. As the doc's hands were in my mouth, he was telling the doc-in-training about his job.

The doc said that while some could see Orthodontia as a tedious work, as something boring since the braces are all the same, he sees it as a puzzle. That every mouth is different, a puzzle. And that is what brings him to work each day, the challenge of solving the puzzle. Cause you have to do different things with those braces for every single person.

Just something that got me thinking about how we should love what we do and find joy in our work.

Quick, in Brief

To the blogger world, well mainly to those who do not follow my every movement on Twitter, I am now part of the employed world again.

I was let go a year ago because it is a university student job and I didn't qualify as a student for a little bit, I couldn't work there. (Slacked in school. Not going to happen again.)

And so I am hired back where I worked a year ago. I had a decision between a programming job where I have barely looked at the code to make a final decision and my old job where I gained SQL experience, some php and html job experience and good computer skills. Only high level engineers got paranoid about the power we students held and stripped us of our access to the back end, looking at the inner core of the programs worked with. Restructuring has occurred, and needless to say, I am an over glorified telephone operator, complete with LDS chapel directory assistance.

But the good thing is that things are very laid back, so there is some free time from day to day to relax. That's the good thing. However, it's not as active as I'd like. Upon being hired I felt that the Universe was righted somehow, that things are back in motion, and this is a fun place to work, I'd rather not stay in this department for too long. I have to up my programming skills so I can transfer to a team that actually programs, or one of the centralized teams that deal with hardware and actual resolving of computer issues. So that is always good.

Also, for a heads up for one of the next posts, I may post a video. I was hanging out with some guys in my ward and one of the guys was prepping to talk to an old girlfriend to go out again. We recorded what he was going to say, it was hilarious. We may put it on Youtube, and if we do, I will display it here.

If not, if they don't want it online, then I'll just post the transcript. It is a hilarious, hilarious movie. Gave me a freaking asthma attack too!

Office Hilarity

My co-workers are awesome, just so you all know.

I got in, and saw this on the wall:


I'm sorry Fred, I do believe that is an unparalleled level of awesomeness that has not yet been unexplored. It only means one thing Fred, you should grow a mustache too.

Also, may I add that a mission buddy of mine also is growing a mustache. His looks better though, much better.

Also, tonight is Hockey Night with the Chiefs! Yah yah!

Things that make me laugh

A list of things that have made me laugh thus far today. Most are tshirts that I received links of from coworkers trying to kill me.

















Also, my coworkers left to grab lunch from Burger King, I gave them some money and told them to get the triple whopper burger since I volunteered to man the phones. So we eat, Serina, the only girl in our team, had ordered a happy meal thing and gave me the Pokemon toy that came with it. I think I'll keep it, the trading card will go to my siblings, but the little toy I'll keep.

Anyways, getting off topic. Serina also happens to bribe bring deserts she makes each week, this week bringing delicious brownies. We had all eaten probably three days worth of calories and Selina went to grab a brownie. Now being the only girl, we constantly joke around with her. Selina also happens to be a very active girl, very confident, and witty, so when she went for a brownie our team lead Bruce mentioned all the calories she had ate and Selina quickly responded humorously that she would just throw it up all later.


Now, many of those t-shirts got me chuckling a bit, but with that comment, it just set me off and I was laughing for the next couple of minutes to the brink of wheezing. Now for those of you who don't know, I am known for my much laughter, for several minutes and to the point of laughter. It can be funny things, but also things that are out of character, or unexpected set me off as well, along with inane things. Anyways, due to much laughter one night I contracted asthma. So I am slightly wheezing now from my laughing fit. What fun.

On a completely un-related note, SWKT is logged into the message board at the moment. I am excited. SWKT is one of those snarky people who grow on you, and you can't wait to see what they say next.

Blasted Outlook

Today I took over 30 calls. Because of Outlook. Or more appropriately, because no one thought to send general instructions how to do transition over.

That and there are people special enough in the world who are allowed to call about how to drag something onto the desktop and adjust the width of columns, similar to how it is done in excel.

And long calls that didn't need to be horrendously long, but were.

Ok, I am done.

This week

Yeah, I haven't updated. I blame my apartments internet, which has been pretty much down this entire week.

I saw a couple deer in the mountains, a brave chipmunk or two that were really camera shy, but most likely didn't care because they could smell human food and wanted at it. One little guy even attacked our garbage bag.

Work, well next week is going to be a little more hectic because there's a big transition in going on, thus everyone will be taking ground level calls because of a surge expected in the Service Desk queue.

Another note, this weekend is a latin lds conference thing at UVSC. Saturday night is a formal dance. It says that it is Sunday best, but I am going further. Such as wearing white gloves, a top hat and carrying a cane. Excellent. I just hope I don't lose the cane, well it is more of a black walking stick, but it is still cool.
